Green and Equal in Illinois
This past Friday, Jeremy, Cook County Board President candidate, Tom Tresser, and several members of the Karpen2010 Team joined LGBT activists and a wide variety of candidates for drinks, politicking, and discussion about how to promote equality through public policy in Illinois.
The host organizations, Equality Illinois and Join the Impact Chicago played host to a strong multi-partisan candidate event. The room was filled with an eclectic group of candidates including Greens, Republicans, and Democrats (both machine and progressive).
When folks were not shoving campaign literature at one another, Jeremy found time to discuss the issues. While marriage equality was certainly the primary issue discussed, domestic violence in the LGBT community, tax reform, and the importance of building alliances across sexual identity were common themes.
Jeremy is a strong supporter of marriage equality. Our General Assembly continues to demonstrate that it is only capable of pandering to its LGBT supporters by continually dangling a civil unions bill while refusing to bring it to a vote. If elected, Jeremy will work for full marriage equality, continue to promote awareness about domestic violence in the LGBT community, and will work to strengthen gay-straight alliances.
