Community Letter
Dear Neighbor,
In an election year that promises to bring sweeping change to Washington, D.C., voters in Illinois will be challenged to find candidates who can deliver change to Springfield. If we are serious about stopping the in-fighting, nepotism, and corruption in our state government, then we need to stop voting for the usual suspects and their families. We need to elect new leaders who are willing to make the bold choices necessary to change our broken system, and bring real economic and social justice to the people in our communities.
My name is Jeremy Karpen and I am running to be your State Representative. I am a therapist, a domestic violence counselor, and a member of our community. I am running because I believe that access to quality healthcare, education, and affordable housing are human rights. Families in the district need real leadership in Springfield on these issues.
My experiences as a therapist, working with individual clients, drive my run for state representative. I want the opportunity to work on the state level confronting the many ill-effects of growing up in dangerous and neglected neighborhoods. We need economic policy that invests in the people of our community through healthcare, education, and housing.
When elected, I will work to:
- Establish a Universal Single-Payer Healthcare system in Illinois. I support the passage of House Bill 311. It guarantees non-profit healthcare for everyone in Illinois.
- Equitably fund our education system. The current system directly discriminates against working families by tying school funding to property taxes.
- Increase legislative oversight of the TIF districts. Our tax money should put people and the community first. Schools, first responders, and affordable housing are more important than outside development.
As your neighbor and a candidate for State Representative, I respectfully ask for your vote. I am building my run on small individual donations instead of corporate, PAC, or 'machine' money. Please donate so that we can transform Springfield and take back our state government for the people.
Let's change Springfield together.
Sincerely,
Your neighbor,
